The Winroc Challenge: Eco-Paction
Eco-paction starts with you. We’re challenging contractors, do-it-yourselfers and building owners to participate in the green building movement. Building green is easier than you think – you don’t have to sacrifice materials performance or pay more to do it. Simply using high-quality, long-lifespan products that are available through Winroc branches across Canada and in nine U.S. states will reduce waste and conserve energy associated with manufacturing new materials over the long term.
You have more green building options available today than ever before. Choose 100-percent recyclable steel studs over wood ones to conserve forest habitat. Consider insulation with low- or no-VOC binders to improve air quality in your home or building. Use synthetic drywall made from the by-product of scrubbing flue-gas at coal-fired power plants instead of drywall made from mined gypsum. Select new ceiling tiles made from old ones and other recyclable materials. Minimize energy consumption by picking light-coloured stucco in hot climates to reflect heat from the sun and pick darker-coloured stucco in colder climates to absorb it.
