Drywall
Drywall is a safe, environmentally friendly product made from gypsum – a naturally occurring mineral – held together with paper backer board. Recent manufacturing process innovations have made drywall even greener. Today, synthetic drywall is being manufactured with up to 99 percent recycled content, including backer board made from 100-percent, post-consumer recycled paper. Synthetic gypsum has the same physical properties as drywall made from mined gypsum, yet it's produced with a fraction of the energy and ground disturbance.
Conventional drywall with a high-percentage of pre- and post-consumer recycled content is also available at Winroc's branches. Many of Winroc's suppliers mix drywall recovered from buildings slated for demolition, plus unused new pieces of drywall not meeting their specifications, with mined gypsum to make new board. The trend of recycling drywall is expected to gain momentum as other states and provinces follow California's lead in mandating that all drywall be recycled.
Winroc also supplies a variety of non-toxic drywall adhesives and caulking. Ask your local Winroc Green Champion for information on Winroc's green drywall solutions.
